LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas residents may notice that their trash and recyclables are being collected earlier in the day than usual.
In a news release, Republic Services said that effective Monday, it would begin collecting waste at 5:30 a.m. The time change, officials said, was necessary for the safety of drivers who work to collect the garbage and recycling.
“Earlier routes are necessary for the safety of our drivers and to maintain service levels in the extreme heat,” the news release said. “Based on 2024 temperatures, we anticipate that the earlier start time will remain in effect through September.”
Tuesday’s temps were set to reach a high of 106°, which is lower than the day before, according to FOX5 meteorologist Heather Melendez. However, she advised that the relief would be brief, with afternoon highs expected to hit 110° on Wednesday and Thursday: an above-average mark.
Officials said route times will be adjusted if high temperatures do not stick around as expected.
