Summerlin law office shooting survivor shares lasting impact, more than one year later

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – It has been just over one year since a child deposition hearing ended with deadly gunfire.

This happened at Prince Law Group in Summerlin last April.

An attorney representing his son in a custody battle between his ex-wife and her current husband shot the husband and wife, before turning the gun on himself.

There were others sitting in on the deposition who witnessed the shooting unfold, including Shannon Wilson.

Her sister, Kristin Wilson, says she was eight months pregnant at the time and just beginning her law career.

Weeks later, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. But Kristin says the long-lasting mental and physical effects from witnessing the shooting impact her sister to this day.

“The word deposition, certain words can trigger PTSD,” Kristin shared. “The conference room where this tragedy happened, documents surrounding it, down to her laptop that was on the table.”

Kristin says it’s unclear if Shannon will ever be able to practice law again.

She says her sister originally did not want media attention, but around the one-year mark of the shooting, she decided to share her story to bring awareness to other survivors suffering silently.

“It’s been really difficult to see somebody who is so young, and so intelligent, and so talented, and Shannon has such a bubbly personality and she’s just naturally so outgoing, it’s been very difficult to see her change so much in this year and struggle so much,” Kristin said.

On top of battling symptoms of PTSD and survivor’s guilt, Kristin says Shannon also spent the year grieving the loss of her mentor and friend- Dennis and Ashley Prince.
