LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Neighbors in Summerlin are sounding off on the number of reckless drivers zipping through red lights.

The most shocking part, the drivers don’t even look like they know the rules of the road. According to many neighbors we spoke to, they appear to be young teenagers.

They’re performing dangerous maneuvers in broad daylight, like running red lights and weaving in and out of traffic.

Several neighbors tell FOX5 it’s not only putting the bikers lives at risk, but others. Take it from Summerlin resident, Cody Hedin.

“For these kids that haven’t had any kind of class or any course or any licensure, I don’t think they understand just how dangerous it is for them and for those drivers that are around them,” Hedin said.

Hedin says it’s not just happening because the teens have been out of school.

“It happens all the time. I think winter break it’s maybe gotten a little worse over winter break, but I see it happen all the time,” Hedin said.

Another neighbor, Shawn Shirzad agreed when we caught up with him at the intersection of Alta and S. Town Center Drive, just north of Charleston.

That’s where dashcam video was posted to Nextdoor, showing the bikers brazenly zipping through an obvious red light.

The post had around 75 people chiming in, with many saying they call police when it happens.

Shirzad describes what he’s been seeing these days.

“I see mostly teenagers riding E-bikes. Some of them on the street, some of them not, without paying attention to the intersection, the lights,” Shirzad said. “Some of them even ignore the cars that drive by.”

Shirzad adds that intersection is hardly the only place he sees the riders.

He tells FOX5 he’s seen them all over Summerlin.

Both Shirzad and Hedin say fixing the issue could start with new laws on the books or at home.

“I hope they realize that they need to sit down with these kids and help them to understand that it’s serious and just help them understand that the road is not free reign for them,” Hedin said. “It’s something that they need to follow the rules of the road, and help them understand what those rules are.”

A local law firm points out if you get a ticket for running a red light in Nevada, you could get a fine up to $1,000.

FOC5 did put in a late request to Metro about these bikes being street legal, and the amount of calls they’ve received regarding the young racers. We’ll update this story when we hear back.
