LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The man accused of shooting and killing an 11-year-old boy in a road rage incident appeared before a judge Tuesday morning.
22-year-old Tyler Matthew Johns remains in custody without bail, and faces charges of open murder. His attorney maintains, as Johns told police when first detained, that he was not aware a child was in the car.
A Henderson Police Department detective, Kari Skinner, testified that officers had a separate issue with the suspect driving aggressively on the 215.
Johns’s lawyer also argued that the victim’s father was acting aggressively before the shooting.
The victim’s mother was also given a moment to speak. “Road rage doesn’t give you the right to scare the person… My son’s life was taken away. He was just trying to make it to school. [Johns’s] intentions were to hurt someone. He should not be out in the streets.”
Johns is due back in court on Dec. 4 at 9:30 a.m.
