NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) — A Clark County School District substitute teacher is recovering in the hospital after a crash involving a stolen vehicle driven by juveniles.
Elizabeth Allen was hospitalized following the crash Saturday, March 28, at Losee and Washburn roads in North Las Vegas. She suffered three broken ribs and bruised lungs.
“She has three broken ribs and bruised lungs as well. So it’s pretty severe for her because this is probably the most injury she’s had in her life,” said Dionze Blake.
According to North Las Vegas police, what started as a reckless driving call became a search for a stolen vehicle. After a brief pursuit, the stolen car collided with Allen’s car at Losee and Washburn.
Police confirmed the person behind the wheel of the stolen car was a minor. Police also confirmed that all but one of the passengers in the stolen car was a minor, along with the driver.
Second crash injures woman
The crash is one of two recent incidents involving adults seriously injured after teenagers stole a car and crashed it.
A 61-year-old woman is recovering after being hit by a car Friday night. According to Metro police, a 14, 15 and 16-year-old were in a stolen vehicle, ultimately crashing into another car that injured the woman near Durango and Gowan.
Family calls for change
Allen’s family is calling for change, hoping to get answers to make the roads safer.
“I do think that there should be a little bit more protocol for how situations like that are handled where the police get involved, especially knowing residential areas or school zones,” said Jasmine Blake.
