LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The deconstruction of the temporary Flamingo-Koval pedestrian bridge is officially underway.
The bridge went up in October ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The tear-down began around nine Sunday night. It should take about four days for crews to fully dismantle it.
Grand Prix officials say all work should be finished by 9 pm on February 1. The ultimate goal is to have it down ahead of Super Bowl week, which kicks off on February 5.
Flamingo Road will be closed to traffic in both directions between Linq Lane and Howard Hughes Parkway during the tear-down.
Koval Lane will also be closed to traffic in both directions between Rochelle and Albert Avenues.
No one appears happier about the tear-down than the local businesses who say the bridge kept customers away, and cost them sales.
Those businesses will still be accessible during the deconstruction. Sidewalks in the area will also remain open.
