LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Young drivers began a three-day hands-on safety program at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Friday.
Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of teens in Nevada and across the country, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The free course is open to drivers 21 and under. It teaches skid control, panic braking, avoiding distractions and how to handle emergencies behind the wheel.
Law enforcement and professional racecar drivers are walking teens through real-world scenarios.
“I came out here because for my daughter, it brings peace of mind to be able to know that she will be able to react to people on the road because it’s not her driving. It’s other people’s driving and how she reacts to that,” said Suzana McDowell, a valley mom.
Sessions run through Sunday at the speedway.
