LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Nevada Department of Agriculture announced a temporary order has been issued to allow the sale of non-cage-free eggs in Nevada.
Beginning Feb. 20 eggs can be sourced from any egg producer that meets food-safety guidelines, regardless of whether they’re cage-free or not.
This order was issued to address the low supply and high prices of eggs in the state.
A bill passed through the state legislature and was signed by governor lombardo in order for the agriculture department to do this.
“Eggs are typically the most cost-effective protein source for food insecure populations,” said NDA Director Goicoechea. “When families can’t find eggs on the shelf, and when they do the prices are not attainable, this can leave them without an essential food they depend on.”
AB 171 passed through the State Legislature and was signed by Governor Lombardo allowing the agriculture department to make this exception.
