LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — He immigrated from Zacatecas to the U.S. about 40 years ago with nothing but hope and determination to make it in America. Today, his voice echoes through every La Bonita Supermarket in Las Vegas.
“Alta caldiad, bajos precios, ¡WOW!”
Victor Flores, or affectionately known as “Mr. Wow” by locals, said the road to becoming the face of La Bonita Supermarkets was paved with hard work, humility and love for his community.
“We did the first project, and it aired. When the children heard it, they heard the ‘Wow!’ They really liked it, and they were the ones who accepted me,” Flores said.
Flores started selling newspaper ads to local businesses, and that’s when he walked into the then-small grocery store called La Bonita.
“I never thought that God was preparing me to be a part of a great company – now it’s over 1,000 families working here at La Bonita,” he said.
Over three decades later, Mr. Wow’s voice still fills the grocery stores, but his message now reaches far beyond them.
“Now they invite me to schools to read and I’m with the community. Now it’s my life starting when I wake up, and I go out on the streets, people come up to me,” Flores said.
From an immigrant with a dream to one of the most recognized voices in the Las Vegas Valley, Mr. Wow said he is humbled by the love from the community that embraced him.
“It’s shocking to see a city like Vegas, the entertainment capital, where the best performers come to show off their talents, and then suddenly a Latin person or someone who really wants to live and work hard and the only thing they say is ‘wow’ and people embrace them, it’s huge.”
