LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Many users view videos on Meta platforms like Facebook and Instagram. So that’s where some cybercriminals focus their efforts.
Bad actors often upload fake or inappropriate clips of celebrities to attract your attention. They may turn up as either a post or an ad, and they’ll usually include a link to what looks like a YouTube video.
Click on the link, and you’ll get an alert that your Adobe Flash player needs updating. It then provides you with another link to get the update. Click that link, and you’ll infect your device with malware, leaving you susceptible to all sorts of nasty online crimes.
Remember — think before you click! Simply pausing to consider the content you’re viewing could save you from becoming a victim. If you get an update or security alert, make sure it pertains to a system or platform you actually use.
Verification is always the key to protection.
