LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Salvation Army will be dedicating $200K in emergency resources to families in need across Southern Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, according to an official release.
The Salvation Army Southwest Division has announced efforts to serve families who are facing food insecurity.
According to Feeding America, there are over 481,000 people who are facing food insecurity in Nevada.
Officials with the Salvation Army tracked the year-over-year increase, which indicated that several of their locations have seen more people needing assistance.
“Across our nearly 60 units, between seven and 15 new individuals each day are walking through our doors for the very first time … hardworking neighbors who never imagined needing help,” says Lt. Colonel Charles Fowler, Commander of The Salvation Army Southwest Division, based in Phoenix.
The organization says it is working to meet the growing need through food pantries and meal programs. According to the release, officials are anticipating an even larger need for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
How you can help:
Help the Salvation Army by donating, volunteering, or inquiring about food donations at your local branch. Red Kettles will be at storefronts across the community, where volunteers will collect donations.
