LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Two drivers are seriously injured after a head-on collision in the southeast valley Wednesday afternoon.

According to Las Vegas Metro Police, the crash occurred around 3:19 p.m. on Nellis Boulevard, north of Vista Flora Way. An initial investigation found that a 2014 Ram 1500 was traveling north on Nellis, while a 2006 Toyota Sienna was headed south.

Police say the Ram driver failed to maintain the travel lane and cross over the concrete median into southbound lanes. The crash occurred when the front-left of the Ram hit the front-left of the Toyota.

Both vehicles sustained major damage. The Ram driver was transported to Sunrise Hospital for substantial injuries, while the Toyota driver had to be mechanically extracted from the vehicle and transported with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the Ram driver displayed signs of impairment and was booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center on DUI-related charges.

An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
