LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Documents obtained by FOX5 reveal new details and charges for two people arrested in Monday’s east Valley protest.
Las Vegas Metro police responded to reports of a protest at the intersection of Lamb and Charleston around 9:30 p.m. according to the arrest report.
Just after 10 p.m. officers closed the east and westbound lanes as the crowd grew to more than 500 people.
Officials say the crowd became unruly.
Several individuals were illegally stopping their cars in the roadway and doing burnouts.
According to the report police began to position themselves in a line to keep protesters out of the road.
A wrong-way driver in a silver Kia reportedly sped down the street almost hitting several officers. The driver later identified as 33-year-old Josefina Martinez. As two officer attempted to approach Martinez, she fled the scene.
The report states she returned to the area where air unit spotted her vehicle parked at the Raising Canes.
Police say Martinez got out of her car and walked over to the sidewalk to protest with a Mexican flag.
When approached by police for the second time, Martinez attempted to run away. She was arrested and faces two felony charges for assault on a protected person with a deadly weapon.
Martinez is set to appear in court on Feb. 20.
Meanwhile another large group of pedestrians were gathered and spotted by police throwing bottles, rocks, and drinks at officers.
According to the arrest report 19-year-old Ulises Nava was seen throwing a handful of rocks, where one struck an officer.
Ulises tried to run away when the officer approached him in an effort to apprehend him. Police chased him down and Ulises was taken into custody.
Ulises faces a misdemeanor for assaulting a protected person.
He is set to appear in court on March. 11.
LVMPD arrested a total of 5 people.
