LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Summerlin South Little League team is celebrating its U.S. championship win with a parade through Downtown Summerlin.
A community celebration parade is expected to start at 6 p.m. along Park Centre Drive. Organizers say Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys will be the parade’s emcee. Those who plan on attending are encouraged to arrive early.
Players from the U.S. Champion team stopped by FOX5 Tuesday to discuss their experience playing in the Little League Baseball World Series. Dustin Greusel said his whole school was watching the Summerlin South go deep into the tournament.
“Well, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Greusel said. “Many kids don’t get to play in the Little League World Series, and I was fortunate enough to get that experience.”
Star player Garrett Gallegos recounted his giant home run swing that turned the tide during the series.
“On the swing, I blacked out,” Gallegos said. “When I came back to reality, I saw it fly in the air, and I was just like, that might go out … so much excitement just came to me, and it was the greatest.”
Manager TJ Fechser also remembered the huge play and the swell of emotion that came with it.
“To me, forever, I’ll hold with myself is in that dugout of the emotion the kids had. They really couldn’t even talk. It was absolute joy in their faces, and it was just coming through their tears.”
The parade is expected to include the Vegas Golden Knights mascot, Chance, and the cheer team. The Raiders, Athletics, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, and valley sports teams are also expected to attend. After the parade the team, coaches, and family will be honored at the Las Vegas Ballpark during the Las Vegas Aviators game.
