LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV football on Thursday made its first-ever appearance as one of 22 members named to the 2024 Midseason Honor Roll of the Joe Moore Award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding offensive line unit in college football.
The Foundation for Teamwork, which has presented the Joe Moore Award since 2015, today announced that the Rebels are joined by the following schools at midseason: Alabama, Army, Clemson, Iowa, Kansas State, Louisiana, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Navy, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers, SMU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech, UConn, Western Michigan and West Virginia.
UNLV’s offensive front, overseen by second-year assistant coach Vance Vice, was cited by the committee for posting the most rushing yards for any team this season (504 against Utah Tech), allowing only six total sacks for an offense that averaged 13.5 yards per pass attempt (third in the FBS), and is helping the team average 50 points in the two games since having to start a new quarterback.
This year’s Midseason Honor Roll members represent eight conferences and one independent. The units have gained the attention of the Joe Moore Award voting committee as it moves closer to announcing the selection of its semifinalists on Nov. 12 and its finalists on Dec. 3. Selection of the 2024 Joe Moore Award winner will be made public after the award’s annual surprise visit to the winning university’s campus. Past recipients of the Joe Moore Award are the offensive lines from: Washington (2023), Michigan (2021 and ’22), Alabama (2015 and 20), LSU (2019), Oklahoma (2018), Notre Dame (2017) and Iowa (2016).
“Each unit of this year’s Midseason Honor Roll has earned the right to be recognized for displaying the award criteria in a variety of ways that embody the essence of our position,” said Aaron Taylor, CBS college football analyst and founder of the Joe Moore Award. Taylor played guard at Notre Dame for the award’s namesake, the legendary offensive line coach Joe Moore. “As always, physicality, finishing, and consistency in technique will likely be what elevates the units that do what it takes down the stretch to earn this award in the eyes of their peers.”
