LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV football senior Ricky White III has been named the Raising Cane’s Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Thursday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
White, a Marietta, Georgia native, helped lead the Rebels to 2-0 start for the first time since 1999 after a huge victory over Utah Tech. The All-American receiver hauled in three touchdowns within eight minutes (5, 55 and 7 yards) of the opening quarter and finished with 111 receiving yards on five catches. He also had a huge play on special teams as he blocked a punt to give the Rebels possession in the red zone. White’s 111 yards moved him to 11th on UNLV’s career receiving yards list with 2,224, passing Hall of Famer Keenan McCardell (2,189 from 1987-90).
