LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV’s Aaliyah Alexander has been named Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced today.
The 5-foot-8 graduate guard scored a season-high 25 points and her most in a Lady Rebel uniform since joining the squad this summer to lead the Scarlet & Gray in a huge 80-61 victory over Big East opponent DePaul. Right from the start, the Federal Way, Washington native was in a groove and tallied seven points in just the first 10 minutes. The momentum continued as she put up nine points in the second quarter and went into the break already in double-figures with 16 points. Following the break, Alexander went on to score another nine points. She finished the game shooting 8-for-10 (.800) from the field, did not miss a three-pointer as was 3-for-3, and was 6-for-10 at the free throw line. Her 25 points against the Blue Demons have been the most thus far this season in a game by a Lady Rebel. She was only six points away from tying her career-high she set at Eastern Washington.
This marks the second MW honors for the Lady Rebels this season, and the first for Alexander at UNLV.
The Scarlet & Gray will cap off the Chicago road trip with a contest at Northwestern on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 9 a.m. PT/11 a.m. CT.
