LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Four different Lady Rebels scored in double-figures as UNLV (10-4, 2-0) earned a 90-70 victory over San Jose State (7-8, 0-2) on Wednesday afternoon at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
Kiara Jackson and Amarachi Kimpson each dropped 20 points to lead the Lady Rebels. Jackson shot 8-for-12 from the field, 3-for-4 from the three-point line and was a perfect 1-for-1 at the free throw line. Jackson also led the squad in assists with five. Kimpson shot 7-for-15 from the field, made a three and did not miss a free throw being 5-for-5 on the day. Meadow Roland put up 12 points for the fourth consecutive game shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 4-for-5 at the line. Roland led the squad in blocks tying her career-high with three. Alyssa Brown picked up her second double-double of the season scoring 10 points and bringing down 10 rebounds. Brown additionally led UNLV in steals with three on the day.
The Spartans had three different players score in double-digits and were led by Amira Brown’s 15 points. Sydni Summers put up 14 points, while Rylei Waugh had 10 points, respectively.
DOMINATE SECOND QUARTER: After the first 10 minutes of play, the Lady Rebels held a one-point lead at 19-18. UNLV started to get hot and put up 20 points in the second quarter holding the Spartans to only seven points, the second lowest they’ve allowed this season in just one quarter. The Scarlet & Gray went into the half with a 14-point lead, 39-25 and continued to stay hot following the break and scored 29 points in the third quarter to secure the victory.
OTHER NOTES:
- The Lady Rebels forced 18 Spartan turnovers and scored 16 points off them. UNLV only had eight turnovers on the day, which is the second lowest thus far this season.
- UNLV out-shot San Jose State 43.8% (28 of 64) to 38.3% (23 of 60).
- The Scarlet & Gray had their best three-point shooting game of the season shooting 50.0% (10 of 20) from long range.
- The Lady Rebels continue to win the paint against opponents, scoring 32 of their 90 points in the paint.
- San Jose State won the rebounds with 44 compared to UNLV’s 34.
- The Spartans bench out-scored the Lady Rebels’ bench 37-25.
