LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — 66 students with the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV received their white coats Monday afternoon.

The white-coat ceremony, held at the Artemus Ham Concert Hall on the university’s main campus, signifies the shift from student to student-physician, as participants will begin working alongside doctors in caring for patients during the final two years of medical school.

Students recited the Physician’s Pledge and Code of Ethics as part of the ceremony.

Vlada Stark, a member of the Class of 2028, said the milestone carries personal meaning tied to her hometown.

“So in Las Vegas, we have a physician shortage. And growing up here, I definitely saw that… and I feel like I love the idea of just coming back to serve my community in that position,” Stark said.

The clinical training phase follows years of classroom learning and marks the beginning of direct patient care experience for the students.
