TEMPE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV softball dropped 4-1 to Arizona State in a midweek non-conference contest on Tuesday at Alberta B. Farrington Softball Stadium.

The Rebels (16-12) were held off the scoreboard until the sixth inning. Karmyna Becerra and Charelle Aki each had hits against the Sun Devils (22-8), while Becerra had the squad’s only RBI.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: The Sun Devils jumped out front in the bottom of the first inning scoring a run on a sac fly to center field. In the bottom of the third inning, Arizona State made it 2-0 on an RBI single up the middle. ASU tallied another in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. The fifth was scoreless by both squads and the Rebels got on the board in the top of the sixth on an RBI single to left center by Karmyna Becerra. The Sun Devils countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth and made it 4-1. In the Rebels final at-bats, UNLV had a runner on, but was retired on a double-play to end the game.

OTHER NOTES:

  • Becerra also had the team’s only walk of the day. 
  • Diamond Sefe and Bri Williams each were hit by a pitch against ASU. 
  • Amelia Weber and Yanina Sherwood each saw the circle for UNLV. 
  • Becerra is now on a four-game hitting and on-base streak.

UP NEXT: The Rebels will be back home to begin a seven-game homestand, first hosting Fresno State in the second weekend of Mountain West play in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 21 at 6 p.m.
