LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV revealed new details about its planned movie studio complex on Tuesday.
The UNLV Research Foundation approved an agreement with Gardner Nevada Tech Park Studios to oversee the 34-acre development last week. Gardner will also work with Birtcher Development — a real estate company that has been involved in other movie-related projects, such as the Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences headquarters and screening rooms in North Hollywood and the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood — and The MBS Group, the largest studio operator and production services company in the world.
The vote was unanimous.
The multi-use facility will be at UNLV’s Harry Reid Research & Technology Park in southwest Las Vegas and will be called the “Nevada Studios Campus.”
The news comes after Sen. Roberta Lange said she would revive the highly-publicized “film bill” in the upcoming legislative session in 2025.
“UNLV is excited to partner on the Nevada Studios Campus project, which complements our growing innovation ecosystem at the Tech Park and holds great potential to bring new, diverse industries to Southern Nevada and bolster our regional economy,” UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield said in a statement. “It will also support our region’s growing creative workforce and offer new and exciting opportunities for UNLV’s students, faculty, and innovators. We look forward to working with Sen. Lange in support of this project.”
The lease agreement and construction of the Nevada Media Lab and accompanying movie studios would only come after legislative approval. The legislature will meet in Spring 2025. Construction of the complex would be subject to the passage of the Nevada Film Studio Infrastructure Act and would begin about 18 months after passage, with the intention to break ground in 2027.
