LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Dozens of Latino entrepreneurs completed a Spanish-language business incubator program at UNLV, marking the end of a weeks-long course designed to help participants turn business ideas into licensed, sustainable operations.

Program targets language barrier in entrepreneurship

The incubator offered instruction in Spanish, addressing a gap that program graduates say makes the process of starting a business more accessible for those who are more confident in their native language.

Jose Julian, a photographer who has worked weddings and red carpets, said he enrolled to get clarity on the licensing process.

“Something that interested me personally was just getting information about my licenses, because that’s something that really overwhelms me,” Julian said.

Julian also said the shared cultural environment played a role in the experience.

“I feel like a lot of Latinos feel comfortable being with other Latinos as well. So just to see them grow and just to see that interaction is always great to have,” Julian said.

Graduates cite confidence, community as key takeaways

Dietitian Daniela Kramer, another program graduate, said she joined to expand her ability to serve Spanish-speaking clients while building her own business.

“I’m currently a dietitian. I work full-time, but I want to create. I want to help more people, especially I’m Spanish speaking. I am an immigrant myself, so I’m more confident in Spanish,” Kramer said.

Kramer said the curriculum covered marketing and licensing, two areas she identified as priorities before enrolling.

“This program taught me a lot of marketing skills. It taught me a lot about how to get out there and start looking, especially for licenses in my case. That was what I was most concerned about,” Kramer said.

Graduates said they hope the program continues to grow to reach more Latino entrepreneurs.
