LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Despite its flurry of shots, UNLV women’s soccer’s aggressiveness on the attack produced a season-high in targets to no avail in a 1-0 road loss at UC Riverside Sunday at UCR Stadium.
For the contest, the Rebels (1-3) doubled up the Highlanders (2-4) in overall shots with a 16-8 advantage and also the upper hand in shots on goal by an 8-6 margin.
The Scarlet & Gray trio of junior Mallie Ramirez alongside sophomores Cassie Villanueva and Trinity Buchanan each fired a team-best two shots on goal, however, the UCR defensive side remained stingy for the full 90 minutes.
UCR’s Nikki Velasco’s goal in the 27th was the deciding factor and was all it took to prevail in the day’s defensive struggle.
