LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The UNLV women’s soccer team finalized the regular season on Halloween with UNR taking a 1-0 decision Thursday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
The match was part of the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union.
With the result, the Rebels (7-10-2) finish the regular season fifth in the Mountain West point standings with a 5-5-1 record in Mountain West play. They landed ahead of UNR (6-12-2, 4-5-2), which took sixth place in league competition.
The Scarlet & Gray outshot the Wolf Pack by a 21-16, including a pair of late threatening chances in the 76th minute by sophomore Cassie Villanueva and junior Mallie Ramirez. Villanueva sped to a breakaway shot past the UNR backline that required a miraculous save by the Wolf Pack goalkeeper and then Ramirez followed up with another shot that was altered by last-second defending.
UNR, however, received a late penalty call after video review resulted in the ensuing penalty kick for the game-winning goal in the 81st minute.
