LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV sophomore guard Dedan Thomas Jr. has earned all-conference recognition for the second time as the Mountain West announced its 2024-25 season awards on Tuesday.
Thomas Jr. was named All-Mountain West Third Team for this season. As a freshman in 2023-24, he earned Co-Freshman of the Year honors as well as Second-Team All-Mountain West recognition. The MW’s 11 head coaches and select media voted on the league’s awards this season.
Thomas Jr., a 6-foot-1-inch point guard from Las Vegas, led UNLV in scoring this season with a conference-only average of 14.9 points per game. He also was the team leader in assist/turnover ratio at 2.9 (2nd in MW), assists at 5.1 apg (3rd in MW) and field-goal percentage (.420). He ranked No. 1 in the league in minutes played (36:59) and scored in double figures in 11 of his 15 games played, including 20 or more points in three contests.
He was named the league’s Player of the Week on Jan. 20 after leading the Runnin’ Rebels to two upset wins the previous week: at home over then-No. 22 Utah State and on the road at San Diego State. In those games, he averaged 13.5 points per game and 5.5 assists per contest. He has missed each of the last five games because of injury.
UNLV (17-14, 11-9), which has won six of its last eight games, will face Air Force in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament on Wednesday, March 12 at 4 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS (3267) or by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office.
