LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A UNLV student-run radio station hopes listeners will not only tune in, but turn out with donations to help keep it running.

KUNV, “The Rebel HD2,″ provides university students hands-on experience in radio while giving Las Vegas Valley artists and voices a place to shine.

However, the stations is facing a funding crisis.

It operates as an independent, student-run organization and gets little help from the university.

“Only one third of the funding that we get comes from governmental funds and stuff like that, but two thirds of it comes from the listeners. The GoFundMe page that we set up is going to help with operational costs. It’s going to help with royalties for the music that we play on the air,” says Angelo Scaturro, a UNLV alumnus who remains active in the station.

Donations will be used for both equipment and operation costs. It will also help pay for the biannual “Rebfest” which highlights local artists, sounds and businesses.
