LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas bowl is making its return this month for the 33rd year.
The Las Vegas Bowl is back with a rare matchup featuring USC and Texas A&M. These two programs have not faced each other since 1977.
“The one thing we’ve always been trying to do is create unique fun interesting matchups that you don’t get to see very often in bowl games.” said John Saccenti, Executive Director for the Las Vegas Bowl.
A factor in choosing one side of the matchup is a teams proximity to Vegas, which is why USC made the cut.
“Interesting tie here SC has a lot of fans here in Las Vegas. It’s a nice easy drive and that was one of the deciding factors with the christmas holiday, getting a team that can drive in here.” shared Saccenti.
As for the other side of the matchup the bowl committee wanted to select a team with a dedicated fan base that would show out in Allegiant Stadium.
“A&M averaged 105,000 people this year in their home games. If we get a good portion of those people to get excited about Vegas I fully expect the Aggie fans to show up.” explained Saccenti.
The Las Vegas Bowl kicks off on friday Dec. 27th at Allegiant Stadium.
