LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Throughout the Las Vegas Valley, anywhere you can find large areas of open land, it’s being bought up for new warehouses or homes.
Major warehouse developments are being built at the far north and south edges of the Las Vegas Valley along the I-15.
To the north: the Apex area.
To the south: Sloan and even Jean.
Local leaders, and even one Nevada senator, want to ensure these types of projects are on the fast track as all the jobs and business they bring can big a big economic boom.
“Interest in Apex continues to skyrocket… Apex has become a primary location for logistics, big box manufacturing,” reported Jared Luke, Senior Director of Economic Development and Governmental Affairs for the city of North Las Vegas.
Luke contends the development in Apex is a game changer.
“It’s a complete and total shift for the valley in general but specifically for North Las Vegas because we are attracting the fortune companies, the 500s, the 100s, the companies that are looking for their principal location for the West Coast feeding off of the ports in California and they’re coming here,” Luke revealed.
Last week, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto pushed to make the process to build and move to Apex easier helping get the Apex Area Technical Corrections Act to President Donald Trump’s desk.
The legislation would create thousands of new jobs at North Las Vegas’ Apex Industrial Park. New and existing businesses at Apex would be allowed to expand their operations without going through an outdated permitting process for basic utilities and infrastructure. New water lines were also just added.
“Right now, we’ve got about 7,000 to 8,000 acres that are developable. About 2,000 to 3,000 of that has already been used up,” shared Luke.
Also along the I-15, just outside the southern edge of the valley, another industrial park recently went up. The Southern Gateway at I-15 boasts hundreds of thousands of feet of space for businesses to move in just off one of the busiest interstate corridors in the country.
One of the big challenge buildings just outside the valley is connecting the developments to a water and sewer system. Despite that, there are other major development projects in the works.
Earlier this year, the FAA and the BLM announced they are now working to assess the environmental impact of building an airport south of Jean.
Also in Jean near the old Terribles Casino, the South Vegas Industrial Center is in the works. The 200-acre land development project would have more than two and a half million square feet of warehouse and manufacturing facilities.
