LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – With eggs being difficult to find at grocery stores or if you are lucky enough to find them, they are costing you much more.

Many have turned to their friends and neighbors with backyard chickens.

At Linzy Stahl’s backyard chicken coop, you can say it is all hens on deck.

“We have people calling us almost every day for eggs,” Stahl said.

Stahl has to let friends and neighbors know it might be up to two weeks before they can each get a dozen eggs.

She is also rationing how many eggs her family eats, so there is enough to give out.

Her flock of chickens are laying about a dozen eggs a day.

However, not all the eggs end up getting cracked. Stahl brings some inside to be incubated.

“In 21 days, we will have some babies and by fall time they will lay eggs again and that will help replace the ones that aren’t laying as much,” Stahl said.

She shows FOX5 how she uses a flashlight to see the chick’s development inside the shell.

In order to help with the egg production, Stahl also added some quail even though the eggs they produce are much smaller.

“They start laying at 8-weeks-old, and you get an egg a day from them, and they are great for you,” Stahl said.

Whether it is through quails, chickens or turkeys, Stahl has a plan to make sure there are eggs for her friends and neighbors.
