LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – More dead dogs found over the weekend in what has become a well-known dumping ground near Frenchman Mountain. FOX5 first reported on the animal graveyard last month. Since then, animal advocates have been back twice and found more dead animals each time. They refuse to let it go and are continuing to demand action from authorities.
“There are many reasons that people believe this is happening. We will never know the answer until someone’s caught,” argued Joyce Foreman with Paws Patrol LV.
Sunday, Foreman while recording herself walking up to a crate in a black plastic trash bag, “Puppy in a crate. This poor baby didn’t even have a chance,” said Foreman. In the video shared with FOX5, Foreman found multiple dead dogs, chickens, and goats off the road out to Lake Mead from the city, East Lake Mead Blvd. near Pabco Road.
Foreman says she called Clark County’s Animal Protection Service to report the dead animals around 9:20 a.m. Sunday and again around noon but eventually gave up waiting for someone to respond.
Why does the area continue to be an animal dumping ground?
“I wish I had that answer. I believe it’s a matter of convenience. It’s a matter of it’s out of sight. No one can see if someone drives that area and tosses something out of the car window or the door, or even stops and places a bag out there,” Foreman stated.
Foreman thinks adding “no dumping” signs, cameras, and more law enforcement patrols would make a big difference.
“I do feel that it would give them some kind of feeling that they’re being watched and maybe they would think twice at least, rather than being as comfortable as they are now,” Foreman contended.
FOX5 asked both Clark County and the Bureau of Land Management if anything is being done to stop the dumping of dead animals in this area near Frenchman Mountain.
BLM tells FOX5 their Law Enforcement Rangers do patrol the area but admit they have limited resources. They cover 3.1 million acres of land in Southern Nevada alone. They say they do work with Metro to increase patrols in problem areas. The county referred FOX5 to BLM’s response.
