LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – It is one of the most recognized signs in the world and has become perhaps the most iconic imagine of Las Vegas. This week, the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign is celebrating its 65th anniversary.
Back in in May 1959, Clark County approved construction of the sign and on the south end of Las Vegas Blvd. Now, since the sign is always free for anyone to visit any time of day, there are almost always visitors stopping to take pictures. In the Marriage Capital of the World that of course includes brides and grooms.
In honor of the anniversary, Clark County is holding a contest for the best wedding photos taken at the sign.
FOX5 spoke with bride Honore Stockley from Syracuse at the sign. Stockley has been to Vegas many times but for her new husband Scott Bentley it is his first time.
“We were originally going to do the ceremony at the sign, that was one of our things because we said what could be more Vegas, but we decided to go in a different direction and had our wedding in front of the Bellagio, but we needed to have this picture anyway,” Stockley contended minutes after taking a wedding day photo under the sign.

From May 1 – 31, 2024, the Wedding Capital of the World commemorates the 65th anniversary of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign with the “Your Sign of LoVe” photo contest for couples who married in Las Vegas.
Photos taken in wedding attire are strongly encouraged, but any married couple can submit a photo capturing their love and commitment as long as it was taken in front of the world-famous sign.
Contest Rules: Post a photo of you and your partner – preferably wearing your wedding day attire – in front of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. The photo must be shared on Instagram between Wednesday, May 1 and Friday, May 31. Participants must ensure their Instagram account is set to public in order for their entry to be visible.
Tag and follow @vegasweddingcapital. Include #yoursignofLoVe and #WelcomeSignGiveaway in the post caption. By entering this contest you give us permission to: Share your image(s) in future marketing and/or promotions. Display your image(s) on county social media.
The winner will be selected by the Wedding Capital of the World team and announced in June with a public unveiling of the winning photograph and presentation of a custom, 12-inch-high replica created by iconic sign company YESCO of the Welcome sign, which will be personalized with the names of the winning couple. The winning couple need not be present to receive their prize.
