LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — April is National Donate Life Month, and county leaders marked the observance Thursday morning.
Clark County Commission Chairman Michael Naft hosted a ceremony at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign to recognize National Donate Life Month, as well as the Nevada Donor Network Foundation’s Blue & Green Day.
The popular landmark was lit in blue and green to honor organ, eye and tissue donors and to raise awareness about the need for more registered donors in Southern Nevada.

“Blue and Green Day shines a light on the lifesaving power of organ, eye and tissue donation and the thousands of people still waiting for a second chance at life,” said Gordy Prouty, president of the Nevada Donor Network Foundation.
“Lighting the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign in blue and green is a powerful way for our community to raise awareness and encourage more Nevadans to register as donors.”
Organizers said nearly 700 Nevadans and more than 100,000 people nationwide were waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, with someone added to the national list every eight minutes. They said one donor can save or heal more than 75 people.
Nevadans can register as donors at nvdonor.org or at any Nevada DMV location.
