LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Our first significant winter system is currently moving over the Sierra Nevada range this morning, dropping mountain snow and rain in the lower elevations. We’re still on track to seeing the first round of rain between 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the Las Vegas Valley.

A Winter Weather Advisory will take effect from 8 a.m. this morning through 4 a.m. Thursday above 6,000 feet. Snow totals of 3 to 6 inches will be possible.

With the cold nature of this storm, and with the help of some instability, there is a chance for an isolated thunderstorm throughout the morning and afternoon. These pop-up storms have the potential of dropping isolated heavier amounts of rain and some wintry precipitation for the higher elevation areas surrounding the valley.

A second round of rain and mountain snow moves in this afternoon between 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. this evening.
