LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – We’re heading into EDC weekend with great weather for the annual festival at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The EDC party goes from sunset to sunrise, and festival-goers will be treated to mostly clear skies and comfortable temperatures.
Coming off the cancellation of the Lovers & Friends Festival earlier this month in Las Vegas, wind is always top of mind for outdoor festivals in Southern Nevada this time of year. In 2019, gusty wind caused some of the performances at EDC to be canceled. This year, we’ll deal with some wind, but it’s not expected to be strong enough to cause any major issues at the festival.
The strongest wind this weekend will be Saturday and Sunday afternoon with peak wind gusts in the 25 to 35 mph range. After sunset, the wind is forecast to decrease. The strongest wind for the festival will be before midnight on Saturday and Sunday with sustained wind in the 10 to 20 mph range.
With mostly clear skies and dry air in place, we’ll see a 20° drop in the temperature throughout the night. Temperatures will be hovering around 90° just after sunset with low 70s and upper 60s when the closing act is wrapping up at 5:30 a.m. For those who are closing down the festival each morning, you may want to keep an extra layer handy as you make your way out of the festival.
If you’re camping, the afternoons will be warm with high temperatures in mid 90s this weekend. This is above the average high of 89° for this time of year.
