LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas family continues a desperate search for their beloved dog.

They took the dog to a trusted vet and boarding facility and when they went to pick him up, their pet was nowhere to be found. Now a week later, the big question remains unanswered: Where is Murphy?

“This is horrible, it is a horrible thing to happen to anybody,” contended Lynn Vasquez, Murphy’s owner. Murphy, an 8-year-old rescue dog, is an important part of the Vasquez family.

“We adopted Murphy about five years ago. We got him from a very bad situation. He had been in a hoarding situation,” Vasquez revealed. Their home is eerily quiet now that he’s gone missing.

“I was shocked, I was stunned, I was crying. He was mad. He was so mad,” shared Vasquez of the moments she and her husband were told Murphy was missing.

Vasquez says before they left for a two-week vacation to Italy, she dropped off Murphy at All American Animal Hospital on West Flamingo near Rainbow. Vasquez had no idea anything was wrong until she went to pick him up. After being asked to wait for some time, the vet who they have trusted with their pets for years came out and asked Vasquez to step into the examination room.

“He said, ‘We have a problem about Murphy.’ I said, ‘Please don’t tell me he is dead.’ He said, ‘No but he is missing. I had them tear apart the kennels to make sure he wasn’t underneath there, injured or something,” Vasquez recounted. Vasquez was then told by staff they had no idea where Murphy was.

Vasquez went to file a report to try and get police involved and was told it was a civil matter.

“The police department said, ‘We suggest you file a civil suit against him,’” Vasquez reported. That is what they plan to do.

They have also posted all over social media, made calls to shelters and rescues, and done everything they can think of to help bring Murphy home, especially continuing to demand answers from the boarding facility.

“She’s actually said to me, ‘I am sure he is just fine. I’m sure he is not in any danger. He is probably very safe.’ How in the would you know this? How would you know that?,” Vasquez questioned.

Murphy is microchipped, so if the chip is scanned, the Vasquez family should be notified.

FOX5 reached out to All American Animal Hospital Thursday when we first learned what happened and was told that what happened to Murphy was under investigation. FOX5 reached back out again Tuesday and were told “no comment.”
