LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A planned power outage in Baker, California is expected to disrupt gas and EV charging stations on I-15 Wednesday from 10 p.m. until 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Southern California Edison says it conducts many planned outages a year to modernize the energy grid. The power company is advising people to have plenty of gas and battery life in their vehicles for the 90-mile stretch of road impacted by the outage, which runs just after Stateline to the Baker area.

“Very important to have your cell phone fully charged in case something happens and you need to stop or need emergency services. The fire department and law enforcement, sheriff’s department in this area are aware of this outage and they’re prepared as well,” said David Eisenhauer, spokesperson for Southern California Edison.

Southern California Edison says there is a Shell station that is not on its power grid between Primm and Baker. It is available for gas only off Cima Road, exit 172.

Fire officials in Baker say travelers heading to Las Vegas on the I-15 to Baker can get gas and charge an EV off Minneola Road about 30 miles before you hit Baker. There is also gas at Rasor Road, about 10-12 miles before Baker.

NDOT plans overhead messaging on I-15 to warn drivers of the planned outage, especially for those heading southbound from Las Vegas.
