LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 59-year-old woman has died from her injuries days after crashing into a support pole in the central valley, police say.
The coroner’s office identified the woman as Gwendolyn Brown, and reported that she died of her injuries on Feb. 6 at UMC around 9:54 p.m.
According to LVMPD, the crash occurred on February 2 around 6:31 p.m. on West Owens Avenue, east of the intersection with A Street.
Investigators say Brown’s 2006 Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound on Owens Avenue, passing through the intersection with A Street, when the vehicle lost control. The vehicle drove over the center median and across the westbound travel lanes.
Police say the Toyota collided with the north curb line of Owens Avenue, and collided with a concrete support pole for the overhead train tracks. The vehicle then rotated before crossing back over the center median and coming to rest in the eastbound travel lanes.
Arriving emergency medical services immediately transported Brown and her passenger to the University Medical Center Trauma Center for treatment of their injuries. The passenger was later released after treatment.
According to police, Brown’s death marks the 18th traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police jurisdiction this year.
The crash remains under investigation.
