LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) — Clark County leaders partnered with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Clark County School District for a Peace Walk event to promote unity and address community concerns.
Saturday was the second annual Peace Walk, which raised awareness about public safety concerns in the Pennwood and Arville area.
“There have been challenges in this community for quite a while, and we wanted to come together with community partners to find out how we can combat this together. We stand against violence together, and it’s a call to action,” said LVMPD Capt. Katie Geiger.
The Peace Walk was followed by a resource fair with more than 50 community partners.
“Walk around the neighborhoods around here, Cashman Middle School and Clark High School, and really get out into the apartment, buildings and the community and provide food, provide backpacks, provide resources to an area of town that needs it,” said Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones.
As Metro Police and government leaders work to build trust with the community, they encourage everyone to share their concerns, so they can be addressed.
“We have dedicated officers for this area. They are considered the Safe Village Team,” said Capt. Geiger. “So just know that we are passionate about helping this community, and our doors are always open.”
“We want everyone to know that we’re here to help and we’re here to protect you so if you have a problem reach out,” said Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom. “Oftentimes, the government interviewed us someone or other distant from them. We’re bringing government to you. It’s very important.”
More than 4,500 people signed up for Saturday’s event.
