LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 52-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting that killed a woman near a North Las Vegas apartment complex on Wednesday.
Celester Mayfield is accused of fatally shooting a man in the parking lot of a North Las Vegas apartment complex on Feb. 14. Officers found the victim around 11:45 a.m., but medical personnel would later pronounce him dead at the scene.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, the suspect was taken into custody on Thursday, Feb. 15 after officers conducted a vehicle stop. Initially, officers had identified a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting but determined that the driver was not involved.
Afterward, Mayfield approached officers and was taken into custody.
He was booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center and is currently facing charges of open murder with a deadly weapon, as well as challenging to fight with a deadly weapon.
