LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas driver faces DUI and hit-and-run charges for a crash that ultimately killed a 78-year-old woman, according to Metro Police.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the crash happened July 3, just before 7:30 p.m. at Mountain Vista and Rawhide streets, near I-11. Police said Carlos Lee, 41, drove a GMC Yukon southbound approaching Rawhide. At the same time, a woman was stopped at a posted stop sign eastbound on Rawhide.
According to a press release, the woman began driving into the intersection to make a left turn and drove in front of the GMC. Police said Carlos fled the scene on foot.
Medical arrived and transported the woman to Sunrise Hospital where she later died on Wednesday, according to the Clark County coroner.
Police said Lee later returned to the scene and was arrested and charged with DUI and hit-and-run. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center with a preliminary hearing scheduled on Sept. 30, court records show. He has yet to post bail.
Las Vegas Metro Police said her death will not be counted as a fatality within the department’s jurisdiction, as she died beyond the 30-day reporting limit.
“This collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section,” police said.
