LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Police in England accuse a 17-year-old for being connected to a global cyber online group that targeted large organizations such as MGM Resorts.
Back in September last year, MGM Resorts International faced a cybersecurity attack. A group of hackers known as “AlphaV” claimed responsibility for the cyber chaos.
MGM says it lost $100 million from the data breach. The casino giant was able to get operations back to normal, but only days after as guests suffered long lines, inoperable machines and delayed help.

Police said the teen is from the Walsall area. Police accuse him of being connected to a group that targeted organizations with ransomware and gaining access to computer networks.
“We’re proud to have assisted law enforcement in locating and arresting one of the alleged criminals responsible for the cyber attack against MGM Resorts and many others,” MGM Resorts said, according to a post from West Midlands Police.
The suspect was taken into custody and faces accusations of blackmail and computer misuse.
Detective Inspector Hinesh Mehta, Cyber Crime Unit Manager, at ROCUWM, said: “This arrest has been made following a complex investigation which stretches overseas to America.”
