LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Before President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race presidential race, he visited Las Vegas to try and win over critical voters in the battleground state of Nevada.
Voters like Clarissa Martinez, the Vice President of the Latino Vote Initiative at Unidos U.S. Martinez says the Biden-Harris campaign made its mark on this voting bloc.
“This administration has had a tremendous positive impact on the Latino community,” Martinez said.
Unidos U.S. is a non-partisan organization that does not endorse candidates. But after Sunday morning’s major update, Martinez talked about Vice President Kamala Harris’ record, and what’s important for Latino voters as they head to the polls before we know it.
“Pocketbook issues are top-of-mind for the Latino community,” Martinez said. “From dealing with inflation to more stable, better-paying jobs to housing affordability.”
As for Harris, Martinez told FOX5, “She has a strong record to run on, and we look forward to hearing from her.”
For those who just heard from POTUS while he was in town, Celeste Barajas of Lindo Michoacan says the visit to her restaurant wasn’t lost on her.
“You know, it doesn’t matter what your political affiliation is, the fact that the president just chose your restaurant. I mean it’s just been insane this whole week,” Barajas said.
From a restaurant to a grocery store, Biden’s return proved to be a memorable and full-circle moment for Mario Berlagna, owner of Mario’s Westside Market, after Biden’s first visit when he was merely campaigning.
“When he came to visit last time when he was running, he had made a promise that he said, ‘When I’m president, I will be back to see you.’ And I said, ‘Okay.’ Now remember that you get politicians to come in and say stuff, and then once they’re elected or in office, they forget who you were. But he remembered,” Berlanga said.
As for the next steps with V.P. Harris and what it means for Latino voters, Martinez says there’s a new path ahead.
“It gives us at least a resolution of this particular item. It opens a lot of other doors that need to be addressed.”
The door certainly is open. Even though President Biden endorsed his V.P., Harris says she intends to earn and win this nomination.
