LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas man is recovering from broken bones and cuts after a driver struck him while he was cycling and left the scene without stopping, he said.
Rich Broome said he was riding near the intersection of Count Deiro and Hualapai on Aug. 9 at approximately 7 a.m. when a driver turned left into him.

The collision
“That driver started to come into the intersection, then turned left right into me, turning onto Hualapai,” Broome said. “And I was fortunately thrown clear of her car and landed in the road.”
Broome said he made eye contact with the driver in the moments before impact and described her as middle-aged with wavy brown hair. He said the vehicle was red, box-shaped, and had a large, shiny rectangular front grille.
When Broome looked for the car after the crash, it was gone.
Bystander stopped to help
Las Vegas resident Greg Neff said he saw Broome lying in the road and stopped.
“My mind is just to help somebody,” Neff said. “Especially when they’re laying in the middle of an intersection and the cars are still going by without stopping.”
Family calls for justice
Broome’s wife, Christine, arrived at the scene shortly after.
“It is important that she’s brought to justice,” Christine Broome said. “She left him lying in the road, not knowing if he was dead or alive. And she’s out there driving around. She’s driving around next to you, next to your kids. She’s driving around in school zones.”
Broome, who said cycling is a daily passion, said the prospect of not riding again weighs on him beyond the physical pain.
“Facing the possibility that I might not ride again is pretty painful beyond the injury pain,” he said.
He said he wants the driver found.
“There’s no good reason for leaving me by the side of the road to live or die,” Broome said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Las Vegas Police or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
