LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and North Las Vegas Police each report drops in vehicle thefts, robberies and burglaries.
North Las Vegas police say year-to-date residential burglary is down 29 percent. Vehicle burglary is down eight and a half percent. Stolen vehicles are down about 44.2 percent, while robberies are down nearly 10.9 percent, compared to last year, 2023.
When it comes to fighting crime, North Las Vegas police specifically mentioned its newest station and the hiring of new officers.
“Additionally, we have assigned special detail units to target everything from stolen vehicles, commercial burglaries and other trending crimes,” said the department.
The police department also says it needs the partnership and trust of the community to better service and address areas of concern.
Figures from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department show car thefts are down 27.9 percent year-to-date, compared to the same time in 2023. LVMPD says robberies are down 19.3 percent, while burglaries/breaking and entering are down 12.3 percent.
FOX5 reported on a drop in car thefts back in April. At the time, LVMPD said software updates and anti-theft devices helped reduce car thefts across the valley. Thefts jumped after a TikTok challenge exposed how to steal certain older model KIA and Hyundai cars. FOX5 asked why other property crime has dropped and is waiting to hear back.
Nearly all of Metro’s area commands saw a drop in the above listed property crimes.
FOX5 also reached out to Henderson Police about property crime and was asked to submit questions to the city’s website.
