LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV standout linebacker Jackson Woodard began his senior season at UNLV with a bang as the 2024 Preseason Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
He earned his first Mountain West Player of the Week honor on Monday after the Rebels’ dominating 27-7 win at Houston over the weekend.
Woodard (Little Rock, AR) posted a game-high 11 total tackles, including seven solo, and surpassed his entire junior season total in quarterback sacks with three takedowns vs. the Cougars. He tallied a fourth tackle-for-loss for a total of 28 yards lost in the game and added a pass breakup as well.
The preseason first-team all-league pick was this summer announced as a member of the official watch lists for the Butkus Award (nation’s top linebacker), the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (defensive player of the year), and Chuck Bednarik Award (nation’s top overall defensive player).
Woodard and the Rebels will open their home schedule on Saturday by hosting Utah Tech. Kickoff at Allegiant Stadium is set for noon.
