LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – We’re seeing new video that could help Metro police identify who left Reba the bulldog to die in a taped-up tote bin in 100-degree heat after a months-long investigation.
The department is now asking for this to be a team effort in identifying who these people are, in the area where the dog was found. But a local animal non-profit volunteer says people should have seen this video months ago.
Take it from Lindsey Pinapfel, who works with the Vegas Pet Rescue Project.
“This is something that should have potentially have gone out a lot sooner,” Pinapfel said.
But now that the video is out, you can see a white sedan driving up to the area where Reba was found by a dumpster near Maryland Parkway and Twain Avenue in July.
Then, we see a man in dark clothes and a woman in a dress parking near the tote bin.
Police want you to contact them if you know the identity of those two individuals.
The fact that this was in broad daylight is something that worries Pinapfel.
“What it tells me about them is they have no care, no compassion, for what it is that they were doing and what it is that they did,” Pinapfel said. “I worry that they would do it to another animal, and if not an animal, that they would potentially do it to kids.”
Wanting to find out who is responsible is top-of-mind for Sergeant William Gethoefer of Metro’s Animal Cruelty Detail.
“Unfortunately, we have exhausted all investigative means and trying to identify the vehicle as well as the subjects in this video,” Gethoefer said.
But hope isn’t lost for Las Vegas radio personality, Chet Buchanan, who’s been trying to get the word out across the valley, so there can be Justice for Reba.
“There’s video out there now, and we’re hoping that somebody will be will recognize that car, and somebody will be able to make a positive identification,” Buchanan said.
But he is is quick to point out just because we have new video, doesn’t mean these two people are guilty. “You have to be able to see them leave Reba there, and that’s, that’s just not available,” Buchanan said.
Still, Pinapfel says if Metro released the video earlier, they might have gotten the information they’re just now asking for.
“As far as I know, they’ve at least had it dated back to August 20th. I don’t want to throw shade on them, but it feels like that because some individual leaked that video out to the public that they decided to jump on the bandwagon, too,” Pinapfel said.
She also praised the department’s efforts so far.
FOX5 reached out to Metro to ask more questions about the case, but were told the department would not be honoring our request.
They say you can call Crimestoppers and stay anonymous if you have information on the incident or the identity of the individuals from the video.
Meantime, the Vegas Pet Rescue Project is offering a $50,000 reward for anyone that can help find who left Reba to die.
