LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Raiders, Golden Knights, and UNLV are all set to play on the road this weekend, but that has not stopped the sports scene in Las Vegas.

The Shriners Children’s Open, South Point 400, PGA Tour, and PBR expect a mega-eventful weekend.

“Huge weekend for the city of las vegas. Huge weekend for the sports world,” said Matt West, PBR announcer.

Las Vegas is getting back to its roots.

“The original sports of Las Vegas have always been rodeo, racing, and golf,” shared Brendan Gaughan.

Year after year, the Shriners Children’s Open, NASCAR, and PBR return to the valley to demonstrate the city’s ability to put on massive, quality sporting events.

Some say events like this set the tone to pave the way for even larger events like the Super Bowl.

“There was a time about 25 years ago where you might have the occasional boxing match. We were able to put las vegas on the map having a one day 100,000 plus people event.” explained President and General Manager of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Chris Powell.

“Without the support of Las Vegas, the PBR wouldn’t exist today,” said one spokesperson.

Local nascar driver Noah Gragson has had a front row seat to the evolution of the Las Vegas sports scene.

“So many different live sporting events,” said Sean Gleason, PBR CEO, and Commissioner. “To be able to cut my teeth racing here means a lot. It really is a sports town and its got a lot of support,”

With the jam-packed weekend ahead, gratitude was felt all around.

“To have the Shriners Children’s Open with the PBR with the NASCAR race, we appreciate it,” expressed Gaughan.
