LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Las Vegas early Sunday morning.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred around 12:18 a.m. on East Charleston Boulevard, east of the intersection with 10th Street.
An initial investigation revealed that a Toyota Camry was traveling east on Charleston, while a pedestrian was crossing the road outside of a marked crosswalk. The collision occurred when the pedestrian crossed the path of the Toyota and was struck.
Arriving medical crews determined that the pedestrian – identified as a 51-year-old man – died at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota was arrested on DUI-related charges after displaying signs of impairment, according to police.
“The pedestrian’s death marks the 126th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release. “This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.”
