LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The UNLV women’s basketball team secured an 85-71 victory over Northern Arizona on Education Day at The Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday morning. The Lady Rebels had their second game with five or more players scoring in double-digits.
UNLV (2-0) was led by Amarachi Kimpson’s 19 points as she shot 7-for-14 from the field, 3-for-4 from the free throw line and drained two three-pointers. McKinna Brackens chalked up her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kimpson and Brackens each also had four steals, which is a career-high for both of them. Aaliyah Alexander, Alyssa Brown and Kiara Jackson each collected 11 points versus the Lumberjacks.
Northern Arizona (1-1) was led by Sophie Glancey and Nyah Moran who each had 18 points, while Taylor Feldman put up 13.
STAT OF THE GAME:
UNLV held a 12-point lead heading into the half. As the third quarter started, the Lady Rebels and Lumberjacks exchanged baskets and NAU cut the deficit back to nine after a three-pointer right under the nine minute mark. UNLV then increased the advantage back to double-figures, 63-46, before NAU went on a nine-point scoring run to get back within eight, 63-55. In the final frame, Kimpson drained a three and Brackens sank a layup to go back up, 69-55. The Lady Rebels then held the double-figure lead the rest of the way and did not let up.
PAINT PARTY:
UNLV dominated the paint scoring 60 of its 85 points compared to NAU only scoring 36 in the paint.
QUOTABLE:
“I’m proud of our group for being disciplined, following the scouting report and playing extremely hard. For the most part, we played the way we wanted to with rebounding, balanced scoring that I’m really proud of and it was a fun crowd to play in front of.” – UNLV head coach Lindy La Rocque.
OTHER NOTES:
- Macie James had 10 points for the Lady Rebels.
- Meadow Roland had her second game with double-figure rebounds with 16. Roland also had nine points and her first collegiate block.
- Jackson led the squad in assists with six, while Alyssa Brown led in blocked shots with three.
- The Lady Rebels are 20-4 in The Thomas & Mack Center under La Rocque, including the Mountain West tournament and have won 19 games straight in the TMC.
- UNLV forced 18 NAU turnovers and scored 21 points off them.
- The Lady Rebels’ bench out-scored the Lumberjacks’ bench 19-8.
- There were three lead changes and UNLV and NAU were tied seven times.
- UNLV is now 17-4 all-time against NAU.

The Lady Rebels will take their first road trip of the 2024-25 season and visit Arizona on Tuesday, November 12 with tip off set for 5 p.m. PT.
