LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Several small business owners want a suspected burglar to stay behind bars after his latest alleged crime spree, after police reports claim he’s targeted a shopping center two years in a row.
FOX5 first showed you surveillance video of thieves breaking into a podcast studio off Maryland Parkway and Pebble Road by busting through a wall. Victims were notified of an arrest in late September, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police name suspect Shawn David Morrow as a perpetrator in the crime.
“I immediately recognized Morrow due to the fact that I have investigated him and arrested him for numerous other burglaries in the past,” a detective states in the police report.
At least one of Morrow’s latest cases has been transferred to District Court. Several current charges in Las Vegas Justice Court include business burglary, plus possession of a stolen vehicle and grand larceny of a vehicle.
Morrow is being held in custody without bail. November 6, Morrow had a court appearance in District Court but refused to be transported.
One of the latest burglary victims, a smoke shop in the shopping center off Maryland Parkway and Pebble Road, said Morrow had targeted them the previous year. A 2023 police report names Morrow as a suspect in a March 2023 break-in: he allegedly stole a gun, close to $2,000 worth of cigarettes and a computer.
The owner of the smoke shop tells FOX5 off-camera, they are frustrated that the suspect was released from jail and allowed to commit more crimes and target him again.
In June 2023, Morrow was arrested for other burglary and theft charges, including the burglary of that smoke shop. Last fall, according to court records, several charges were dismissed as part of court negotiations. Records show that Morrow had checked himself into a treatment center earlier that year. He was also placed on probation for up to two years.
“The fact that this guy was in jail…and then was let out again so he could do it again, very frustrating,” said Matthew Kadish of the Las Vegas Podcaster Studios.
“That’s just a brazen disrespect to the rule of law from this guy. I’m really just hoping that [the courts] follow through with this, they understand that this guy’s not going to learn a lesson and be better,” said co-owner Alex Almony of the Las Vegas Podcaster Studios.
According to the previous court hearing, Morrow’s next appearance has been rescheduled for November 18.
